Review by Nadia Auckburally

I decided to take my boyfriend out on a Friday night to have dinner at a Prezzo restaurant located on a quiet, little cobbled street just off Kensington High Street. Prezzo is a chain of Italian restaurants that can be found nationwide.
We arrived at around 9pm and the restaurant was quite busy at the time, other diners were mainly couples and groups. My first impression of the restaurant was good – it was contemporary, stylish and most importantly clean. Immediately, I felt comfortable and relaxed in the casual and informal atmosphere.
The menu offered a comprehensive selection of authentic dishes and included plenty of safe, Italian favourites. The Antipasti ranged from £2.50 to £5.50. We ordered some marinated olives with our drinks, and for starters had mussels served in a delicious, creamy sauce which came with some lovely, fresh ciabata bread, and the calamari which weren’t heavily battered, but delicately dusted and deep fried, served with a tasty sauce for dipping. Both dishes were really nice.
Main Courses which included a variety of pasta dishes, pizzas, risottos and chicken dishes ranged in price from £6.25 to £10.95. My boyfriend had a risotto with crayfish tails and peas in a creamy, saffron sauce and he really enjoyed it. We each ordered a glass of wine with our main courses, the Pinot Grigio Blush – a refreshing rosé. On the list, wine by the glass ranged from £3.50 to £5.50.

Even though neither of us are vegetarian, there did seem to be an adequate amount of dishes suitable for vegetarians across the menu. However, I am “lactose intolerant” and the kitchen was able to adapt a dish to my needs. I had polpette al forno – a baked pasta dish with penne, meatballs, mushrooms, caramelised onions and red chillies, in a tomato and garlic sauce. I was able to order it without the blend of cheeses that are usually added to the dish.
The average price of side orders was around £3.00 and we had ordered a tomato and red onion salad but were given a mixed salad, as apparently they had run out of red onions, which was a bit disappointing.
All of the portions were substantial enough and as much as I enjoyed my main course I wasn’t able to finish it off, but my boyfriend still managed to have a little space left over for some dessert. The average price of the desserts on the menu was around £4.50 and he had a slice of honeycomb cheesecake, which I was told was lovely!
Throughout, the service was very quick and efficient and all the staff seemed to be very attentive. The food was fresh and prepared to order, and the prices were reasonable too. Our bill came to just under £53.00. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and I’d certainly dine at Prezzo again.
